Last night, the other half and I were doing some much needed late spring cleaning; in the mist of cleaning and right before heading out to Target he shared with me his final photography project he created while at USC. The pictures are awesome and will be making their debut to the walls of his bedroom soon.
The point of this post is because even though I love taking pictures (which I’m not very good at) and can appreciate wonderful photography I don’t know much about it; the visual, the technicality of it all, lighting, etc. I don’t really know photographers which leads me to not being able to recognize their work. I know about art but not about photography; what a shame, I’m so lame, I know.
Anywho, today while reading one of the many decor blogs I read, I came across Nick Onken and his photography reminded me a lot of Vicster’s. It’s powerful and dramatic but not overbearing to the point it makes you uncomfortable. It sucks you in and you don’t even realize you’ve been sucked in.
Here’s an interview he did with MediaOneLA’s Memoirs of a Weekend Photographer earlier this year. I love his answer to the closing question:
“LAWRENCEATIENZA.COM: NICK thank you again for your time and giving back to your fans and followers. What would you like to leave for us photographers to think about when moving forward with photography for the future? If you have any words of wisdom will be appreciated.
NICK ONKEN: Again: shoot shoot shoot! The more you practice shooting the more you’ll learn and the better you’ll get. You have to be very self motivated to do this! It’s the only way to get there.”

I would like to post some of his work but I can’t [insert sad face here] . The terms on his website won’t allow you to, I actually read them, haha. But check out his website, it’s totally worth it, I promise!
