An Update on My New Place :)

It’s been a work in progress and I’m finally getting closer to the finish line.

I moved in close to 4 months ago; started off with nothing but a bedroom set (that I took from my house). After searching Craigslist, the local and not so local thrift stores, furniture stores, and galleries I am finally making noticeable progress. Living in LA is tough, first; rent is hella expensive and when hand-me downs (unless they are cool) are not easily accepted (sorry) shit gets tougher. Sounds kinda mean, I know, but I wanted a space that represented me and my hard work not someone’s “oh, I don’t need this anymore, you can have it” item.

At first, I use to complain of my small space and the minimal storage it has. Although the whimpering over storage hasn’t really ended I’m glad that my space is small because I can’t imagine furnishing a place bigger than mine. It would drive me nuts!

I’ve done my fair share of research on organizational tips, tricks and DIY ideas. I love Apartment Therapy, it’s my own little Fairy God Mother. I love to decorate and this was no easy challenge. I love all things mid century, Danish and modern not to mention my love for Latino art raised a major test. How was I suppose to incorporate everything into one small space? The trick was to not let the conventional rules hold me back (i.e. modern and old don’t go together, flowers and stripes don’t match, use same wood tones, etc.). Because I started off with a blank slate bringing in pieces made it easier for me to sketch and plan. I have really odd lines due to a heater that’s stuck in the middle wall of the living room taking precious space and the focal point of the room (MAJOR challenge…grrr!). It took close to 3 months to finally decide on the right sofa. I finally decided I should invest in a modern mid century inspired sofa. I knew that if I went with a tufted sofa my place would start looking like it was stuck in the 60s and I really didn’t want that. I just found this amazing credenza for my LCD which adds that Danish look I was going for. I’ll take pictures over the weekend for you all to see my space….tootles!!!
